Last year I participated in a photo shoot where many vendors collaborated . The styled shoot was Great Gatsby themed and the location a beautiful mansion in Hyde Park.
It was a great experience and it created a bug in me to do at least one styled shoot per year (the networking alone I find is worth it). If you're wondering why anyone would do this. Here are a few reasons. It's a chance to experiment with things not normally done for paying clients, such as new lighting techniques, new gear or even style of shooting- photojournalistic, posed, etc. For this particular Great Gatsby styled shoot, I wanted to use a new toy my digital Fuji camera with a fixed lens (Fuji x100). I wanted to determine the quality of the sensor and I have to say it did not disappoint.
The shoot, as well, did not disappoint. It was a great experience and I met so many talented vendors, including other photographers whom I still follow on social media. From the tailored suits, the jewelry and the placecards, not one detail was missed.
Here are the photos I captured of the location, the details, and the models. The black and golds really contrasted wonderfully, allowing it to highlight the lovely models.
